Registering suites of linked domain names
In the coming years you are likely to need a variety of different domain
names for different audiences and purposes. You may well find, for
example, that you want suites of names for use in on-line marketing,
customerisation of websites and product procurement.
We encourage you to consider registering suites of domain names for
current and future use. The names can be forwarded to different, or the
same, website or email addresses or left unused in the short term. Decide
whether you should register:
- Internet friendly names for your main activities, products and
services
- Your company name with a variety of different organisational and country
suffixes (eg com/co/org, .uk/.au/.fr)
- Your personal name, possibly with several variants
- Commonly mis-spelt and mis-heard words, in correct and incorrect
versions
- Your names with and without hyphen between words
- Descriptions of the information, goods and services you provide eg
ModernLighting.co.uk or OperaTicketsWorldwide.com (to
gain higher rankings by search engines and to capture people who type
the name of the item they want into their internet browser )
- Your brand names and trademarks
- Marketing slogans and phrases
- Alternative spellings and language (color/colour, petrol/gasoline)
- Singular and plural versions of key words
- Descriptions of products, brand names and services in the languages
of the countries in which you currently trade or may expand into in the
future
- Names for future market opportunities and organisational expansion
- Names that could be used to defraud or defame you
- Names you want to register for investment
